Handstand been my little play thing over past couple of days. The - TopicsExpress

Handstand been my little play thing over past couple of days. The relationship with this pose has not been linear for me - in that it doesnt steadily improve as time moves on. Sometimes my body is a lot more open to it and this all depends on whether my pelvis is aligned. I have a pronounced hypermobility there and whilst this has benefits the draw backs are plenty. Its almost like the pelvis is like a ship moving about slightly disconnected so my hips externally rotate and I can push it beyond its capacity without realising. When it comes out of alignment my whole nervous system is affected and I get tightness in my scapula and neck as the spine tries to compensate. A trip to the chiro sorts it out for a while. Its a journey for me to stabilise the pelvis and I dont fully know the answer but I do know that in handstand I have to internally rotate my thighs or the legs just spread in the air and I cant maintain the balance. I practice this in Shoulderstand, Warrior 3 and Standing Splits. Your body is totally unique and comes with its own nuances so dont judge if the journey takes a little longer. Eventually you will get there with persistence and compassion. Listen in... Your body will tell you its secrets. X
