Hanging out with non-horsey people always gives me a great insight into our industry and often gets me thinking of things in a whole new light. One of my recent insightful reminders came from a cow grazier friend of mine. He had recently attended an equine nutrition workshop and was shocked and disgusted at the high incidence of serious issues our horses deal with as a direct result of how we feed and manage them. The stereotypies, colics, behaviour issues, gastric ulcerations, injuries etc, just to name a few. He said I dont mean to sound rude or be offensive but it seems like many people keep their horses in conditions that are no different to those of a factory farm...and you know what, I completely agreed with him!
