Hank and I played hooky today and went up to Skyline Drive for a hike. We hiked South River Falls located between milepost 62 & 63. The 2.6 mile round trip hike is moderately strenuous from the picnic area to an observation point of the 83 foot waterfall. We thought that the downhill was a little steep so instead of retracing our steps we opted to take the fire road to the AT which made it a 3.3 mile circuit. Just use the “Lewis Mountain Area Road and Trail Map” that the guard at the entrance to the park can provide if you ask for it. The observation point is a great spot for a picnic lunch! Don’t forget a bottled water.
