Hap: good panel discussion...I see some individualist feminism in there...why today would I feel a need to encourage feminism? because I encourage individual rights, equality (not more, not less), autonomy, and self-ownership whether a man/woman works in a career where they are minority or decides to be a stay at home Mother/Father. For the Libertarian Party, we need more women involved. We need more voices. Women are 60% of the vote, and 20% involved in politics in general. My own politics have changed over time; the older I get the more I count conservative and libertarian women as friends. But I still have friends from childhood who are unflinchingly progressive. And while we have our disagreements, we respect each other. We each have different approaches to feminism, but recognise an underlying desire for female self-determination. While I cherish the original conception of feminism, I understand those who object to the label today. But I also know that one does not need badges or labels, to truly live out feminisms philosophy. • Claire Lehmann is a politically centrist Sydney-based freelance writer
