Happening Now: KKY at Davos World Economic Forum By Donald Roberts If you are watching the international networks of CNN or BBC or CNBC you must be inundated by the news of the annual gathering of global leaders and CEOs of the worlds biggest corporations at the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland. The meeting takes place at the beginning of the year to discuss global challenges and how to deal with them. Only one Sierra Leonean is a REGULAR at this World Economic Forum and thats our very own KKY over the past 5 years. For 4 years, KKY has also been a member of three key World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Agenda Councils (GAC) namely on: 1. Climate Change 2. The Future of Africa 3. The Future of Electricity The Global Agenda Councils (GAC) set the agenda that the leaders will discuss and then a few members are chosen as resource persons or thought leaders. KKY plays the latter role as Thought Leader and co-organizes sessions. He is a Technocrat, a Policy Expert and a Doer. This year is special because the World Economic Forum (WEF) accepted to launch KKYs idea of an African Energy Leaders Group. (AELG remembered his article in the New African Magazine in May 2014 and his speech at the Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank). Indeed, when KKY speaks the world listens. The AELG is a unique public-private partnership that translate the Africa Power Vision into realty. It will be co-chaired by President Duramani Mahama of Ghana and President Alasane Outtara of Cote DIvoire, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank, Aliko Dangote Nigeria Business Magnate and Tony Olumelu, CEO of Heirs Holding. The Secretariat will be at the African Development Bank. The initiative is also another one of the lasting legacies of KKYs contribution to the African continent. In addition to leading the launch of the African Energy Leaders Group (AELG), KKY took part in three other Africa-focused events at the World Economic Forum: A CEO Breakfast Roundtable on “Unlocking Global Institutional Capital for Africa”; an interactive session with Heads of State, Business Leaders, Investors and Heads of multilateral institutions on “Closing the Energy Gap in Africa”; and a session on “Reimagining Africa’s Future”, where other speakers are scheduled to include Former US Vice President AL Gore and US Secretary of State John Kerry. Earlier in the week, KKY met with Madame Segino Royal, Minister of Environment of France (former presidential candidate). Just like after the war, the post-Ebola Salone needs a leader that can restore confidence, dignity and pride in our nation. International solidarity will also be needed to rebuild our economy and our institutions. KKY has what it takes. Think KKY as we dream about Post-Ebola Salone for rapid growth and sustainable development.
