Happiness Or JOY Friends, there is much in this life to distract us from following Jesus Christ. Some teachings today with an emphasis on prosperity and a lack of emphasis on Jesus do a disservice to our Lords Gospel message. At times it helps to remind ourselves of our true calling in Christ. Have you entered into the glorious privilege of being crucified with Christ, until all that remains in your flesh and blood is His Life? Oswald Chambers. Thank you Oswald Chambers for stating this simple and powerful Truth about the stark reality of our Christian journey. Bonhoefferr made a similar statement when he said ...when God calls a man He calls him to die. I see billboards advertising a local mainstream church and the dominant image is that of a family being happy, attempting to appeal to the reader with the subtle promise that if you become a Christian or join this church you too can be happy like this family. How sad. There is no shortage of things in this world to make us happy. What our culture needs and is desperate to have is the supernatural inner strength of the Joy of God in the midst of suffering, pain, trials and adversity. That is what will sustain Gods people through the headlines to come, not superficial happiness, and certainly not prosperity. Supernatural Joy in the midst of trial is at the core of our faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jack
