Happy 26th birthday today to the Most Outstanding Player of the 2009 NCAA Final Four, SG Wayne Ellington. The Philadelphia native played for the Heels for three seasons and left after his junior year for the NBA Draft following the National Championship title run. At Carolina, Wayne averaged 14.7 ppg in his career and made nearly 40% of his three-pointers. One of Waynes biggest highlights of his career was when he made the game-winning three-pointer in overtime at Clemson in 2008, capping off a career-high 36-point night at Littlejohn where Carolina was ranked #1 and was 14-0 at the time and nearly lost in regulation. Wayne was a late first round pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2009. He would be traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2011 and was traded to Cleveland during the season. This offseason, he signed a free agent deal with the Dallas Mavericks, teaming with former Tar Heel players Vince Carter and former teammate Brandan Wright. Wayne has played nine games so far for the Mavericks, averaging 3.1 pts off the bench.
