Happy 80th Birthday to my Dad, Dickson Rial! We started the celebration early yesterday, with an incredible gathering of friends, some we have known for over 50 years, along with the wonderful people of Orchard Hills Baptist Church. Dickson Hughes Rial, also known to many as “Hoss”, was born in McGehee, Arkansas on November 30th, 1934 to Hubert and Ruby Rial. I think he started “calling the Hogs…Woo Pig Sooie” straight out of the crib! Dad was an outstanding athlete at McGehee High School, achieving all state football honors and numerous scholarship offers, but instead, he followed God’s calling to preach that he received at the age of 16, and 64 years later, he is preaching stronger than he ever has! I told dad that God didn’t really start using Moses in ministry until he was 80! He went on to graduate from Ouachita Baptist University, and to Southwestern Theological Seminary, where God led him to my mom, Shirley Ann Terry, the best thing that ever happened to him! I will always remember the sacrifice he made coaching all my teams and spending countless hours with me throwing the ball….I can never remember him missing a single one of my football, basketball or baseball games from 1st grade all the way to my senior year. But it is watching my dad over the years, that has demonstrated the greatest example of Jesus Christ to me….the way he loves and ministers to people, and the way he ALWAYS puts the needs and hurts of others before himself. I have never seen a man have a greater impact on people than my dad. Dad, today is your day…I am SO proud to be your son….and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving your all to me…loving me unconditionally….never giving up on me…and showing me how to love people….you truly are a man of God!
