Happy Anniversary my Love Jhaura! Wow, what an amazing ride we have had together, and our love is growing stronger and stronger, as we are growing together in compassion, understanding, wisdom, patience and humility. Do you remember when you asked me to marry you? You took me for a walk in the woods at night with our dogs, and it was very dark...we walked for a while when all of a sudden I see a speck of light coming from under a glorious oak tree; as we approached the great crown, I saw many, many candles and red roses arranged neatly around the trunk. You kneeled, took out a gorgeous ring and asked me to marry you! Ah, what a wonderful idyllic proposal! I love you with a wide, wide open heart! And this is what we were told the day of our wedding: Marriage is one of the seven Holy Sacraments with which the Church marks major transitions in life. These sacraments serve to bring us closer to God and to strengthen our connection to the inner spirit. The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony unites a man and woman at every level of their being and is a reflection of the sacred marriage of the Soul to the Spirit in each of us. The Marriage Service opens the natures of the bride and groom towards each other, especially at the emotional and mental levels; and then having done this, it draws a ring around them separating them to a certain extent from the rest of the world. This is what happens during the ceremony: As the bridegroom utters his troth-plight, his whole inner being shines and swells until it completely enfolds the bride, and when her turn comes, she surrounds him in the same way... into this double sphere come the consecrated ring(s), instantly lighting up both of bride and groom and raising their awareness and sensitivity. During this state of the heightened consciousness, the Priest pronounces the formula of marriage, and power from our Master floods through the priest, effectively welding the bride and groom into one. From the point of view of the inner life, matrimony is a tremendous experiment, in which the parties agree to make certain sacrifices of individual freedom and preferences, in the hope and with the intention that through their mutual reaction, each will intensify the inner life of the other, so that their joint outpouring of spiritual force will be far greater than the sum of their individual efforts. Today is a day that Jhaura and Mihaela will long remember. Their memory of the ceremony will source of beauty and strength by which they can measure and adjust all that comes into their daily life. Through the ceremony they will have gained a special sensitivity and inner communication with one another that will remain forever. Let us remember the words of St, Paul to the Corinthians (1:13:4-7) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil. But rejoices in truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always persevere. Love never fails. And now these three remain, faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love!
