Ap Lei Chau is one of the most densely populated islands in the world. Hong Kong Island is historically the political and commercial centre of Hong Kong. It was the site of the initial settlement of Victoria City, where the financial district of Central is now located. Most of the other islands are commonly referred to as the Outlying Islands. Kowloon Peninsula, across Victoria Harbour from Hong Kong Island is another notable commercial centre in Hong Kong. After spending a week in Chengdu and then a day in Hong Kong, Stanley was like a dream. I took a short walk along the harbor before deciding to eat on the patio of the Pickled Pelican. Shrimp cocktail, two tall Carlsberg’s and bangers and mash while watching the sun and the sea in relative quiet. It really seemed like heaven compared to the din of the city...
