Happy Birthday, Robyn Payne! Wow, 12 extraordinary folks with birthdays today! Todays theme is going to the one Ive known the longest, and have performed with the most... ...but first, I wax poetic about my famous Halloween tradition (which began after Robyn and I finished our undergrad degrees at IU.) Alas, Im on the road today, so I cant do my tradition this year, but hopefully I can in 2015. Robyn is a superstar performer, and we collaborated many times during our undergrad years at IU. She was a voice major (and a fantastic Classical singer) but most of the work we did together was in the world of Musical Theater. Her voice is out of this world- the numbers she performed on the IU theater stage were literal showstoppers. Also, it was so much *fun* to work with her! We always clicked incredibly well as artists, and there will always be a special place in my heart for Robyn P :) Robyns #BirthdayQuest theme began in a fashion similar to her voice: big and bold. I was compiling a collection of tunes that weve performed together, and was planning on using quotes from several of them to help build her theme. Then, I ran her name through my various Musical Alphabet Codes, and her last name (via my MAC #2) generated some lovely material that I really enjoyed. Sometimes simple can be better, and this beautiful and poignant tune captures the spirit I was aiming for in her #BirthdayQuest theme. Happy Birthday, Robyn!
