Happy Birthday to Electra Isabel and Electra Amelia Avellán! Born 28 years ago today in Caracas, Venezuela, the Avellán Twins, as they are known by their fans, would go on to be featured in some of my favorite movies, you know, the ones directed by that one guy from San Antonio. I met Electra Isabel, or Elis, (pictured on the right, photo by Irvin Lewis) at a movie premier last year at the Paramount Theatre ! (Hint: the film was about a heavily tattooed Mexican gentleman named after a fantastically sharp piece of cutlery). Since then, Im happy to report, weve kept in touch. And, let me tell you, along with her creative endeavors, which include photography and dance, Elis is also very politically aware. I feel smarter just for knowing her. A few months later, I would meet Electra Amelia, or Electra (pictured on the left, photo by Alice Rabbit Photography). Im still surprised that she recognized me before I had a chance to introduce myself. It was both flattering and stunning to be recognized by one of my favorite film icons. To think, had I not uploaded a video, shot by Ivan Juarez, for a contest to appear in a commercial with the Avellan twins, I dont know if any of this would have happened. No, I didnt win the contest. But, as an actor, its all about becoming more optimistic during the 99.9% of the times that I dont get the role, because it is during those moments that I discover something more important. So, go get some Dos Lunas Artisan Cheese, pour some wine, and give a toast to two of Venezuelas greatest imports! No, Im not talking about Zinc and Potassium. Im talking about ¡Las Gemelas Avellán! To them I say, ¡Feliz Cumpleaños!
