Happy Birthday to musician and producer Oyamada Keigo, 46 today! Active early in his career as a member of Flippers Guitar, alongside acts such as Pizzicato Five and Cibo Matto staple of the urbane-pop Shibuya-kei scene of the early 1990s, he went solo under the name Cornelius in 1991, pioneering a naive, yet tightly coiled sound drawing on influences as diverse as electronica, punk, the rustic arrangements of Beck, and the multi-part harmonies of The Beach Boys. To meet the demands of playing live in the late 1990s, Oyamada assembled a stellar backing band, and Cornelius gigs have become known as spectacular multimedia feasts for the senses.
