Happy Birthday today (Jan. 21) to Jimmy Ibbotson, best known as a long-time member (including for most of their peak years, 1970-75) of US country-folk-bluegrass-rock group, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (NGDB), playing guitars, accordion, drums, percussion, piano & vocals; his first recording with them was the 1970 breakthrough US #66 album, Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy, which yielded the groups best-known single, a cover version of Jerry Jeff Walkers Mr. Bojangles (1971 US #9); he also contributed to influential 1972 roots triple-album, Will The Circle Be Unbroken, which featured collaborations with many famous bluegrass & country-western players; since 1977, Jimmy has released some dozen albums as a solo performer, as a duo with Dirt Band-mate John McEuen or with his group, The Wild Jimbos; his latest solo recording is Canyon (2007); Jimmy was inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame on Jan. 9, 2015 as a member of NGDB, performing with the group at the ceremony…
