Happy Birthday today (Nov. 21) to US singer-songwriter, pianist & guitarist Malcolm John Mac Rebennack, better known by the stage name Dr. John & his alter ego, The Night Tripper; active as a session musician since the late-50s, he came to wider prominence in the early-70s with a wildly theatrical performances inspired by medicine shows, Mardi Gras costumes & voodoo ceremonies, & music combining blues, pop, jazz, zydeco, boogie woogie & rocknroll; hes recorded over 20 albums & scored a 1973 Top 20 hit with the jaunty, funk-flavored Right Place Wrong Time, still arguably his best-known song; in 1989, he toured in the first Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band; the winner of five Grammy awards, the good doctor was inducted to the R&R Hall of Fame by singer John Legend in 2011; he collaborated with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys for the 2012 album, Locked Down; in 2013, Mac was the recipient of an honorary doctorate of fine arts from Tulane University - he was jokingly referred to by Tulanes president, Scott Cowen, as Dr. Dr. John; in 2014, he released the Louis Armstrong tribute album, Ske-Dat-De-Dat: The Spirit of Satch…
