Happy Birthday today (Oct. 24) to Dale Buffin Griffin, best known as the founding drummer of influential 70s UK band, Mott The Hoople (1972 UK #3 & US #37 All The Young Dudes); their fusion of hard rock, glam rock & Bob Dylans sneering hipster cynicism provided the groundwork for much vital British rock that followed; after the departure of frontman Ian Hunter, Dale continued with Overend Watts & Morgan Fisher in successor bands Mott & British Lions until 1978; during the 80s, he produced albums for Hanoi Rocks, The Cult & New Model Army, as well as the Department S hit single Is Vic There?; he also produced several BBC Radio 1 John Peel sessions from 1983-94 & some early tracks for Nirvana that appeared on their Incesticide collection; Buffin rejoined his Hoople mates for five reunion shows in October 2009, but only performed during the encores due to ill health (these health issues prevent him from participating in the 2013 Mach II Mott reunion)…
