Happy Birthday today (Oct. 9) to Mat Osman, best known as the founding bassist for Suede, one of the most successful UK bands of the 90s & a leading light of the Britpop movement that brought British guitar music back to the mainstream; their 1993 self-titled debut reached UK #1 & won the Mercury Prize; albums Coming Up (1996) & Head Music (1996) also topped the charts; Mat co-wrote several of the bands songs, including Lost in TV, Europe is our Playground, Attitude & Golden Gun; after their 2003 breakup, he composed music for TV programs & served as London editor of the email magazine le cool & their London guidebook; his writing has been published in The Guardian, The Independent & The Observer; Mat took part in the 2010 reformation of Suede; the group returned to the studio for their 6th album, Bloodsports, in 2013, returning them to the UK Top 10…
