Happy Endings - our Christmas Miracle, Torin. For those of you who dont know Torins story, he came to the shelter in pretty rough shape the end of September after being found in a feral colony. The first picture clearly shows he had a long road ahead of him, but, with the wonderful care of our veterinarians, staff, and volunteers, Torin flourished both physically and emotionally, and, just before Christmas, his dreams came true with a new home with Michael and Sylvain. And we couldnt be happier with the updates on his progress since being adopted. And the attached pictures will make you melt - another success story at MetroWest Humane, and our thanks to Michael and Sylvain. December 22 Dear Cheryl and Patty, I am writing to give you an update on how Torin has been doing since moving to his new, forever home. As predicted, the first few days Torin was incredibly shy, spending most of the day sleeping, though he did have a number of times when he began to purr loudly while we were petting and talking to him. The second day (Saturday) was much the same although he was hiding his face a lot less (and only doing so when an unexpected noise came up, like the heat turning on or neighbors going up the stairs outside our condo). Otherwise, he is being much more alert, looking around and watching what we are doing. Saturday night I decided to stay up with him to see whether his behavior would change in the wee hours. Once Sylvain went to bed and the lights went out, I began to see a different side of Torin. He got up off his bed, began exploring the room, used his litter box, ate/drank, cleaned much of his body, and - began to purr loudly while rubbing his head and body on me vigorously. :) This morning hes still a bit shy. I think hell take a bit of time to be as active during the day as he is at night. But hes making visible progress. He hasnt once hissed or bat at us; hes every bit as sweet and mellow as expected. His eye is still a bit winky, but it doesnt appear to be discharging any abnormal substances. Well continue to monitor it through the end of this week. And if the pees and poopies in his litter box are any sign, he definitely has his appetite! :) The vet will also be happy to learn that his poops appear solid and normal. The gastrointestinal wet food is working well. Ive attached some photos of Torin to this email: hes hard to photograph on the move, so in both hes on his bed. Even still, in the first you can see how alert he is, and in the others, youll see that he has begun to roll over to request belly rubs from us. And with that cute little white belly, who wouldnt want to oblige him? December 23 Torin continues to open up little by little. Now he occasionally does a bit of exploring even during the daytime, albeit timidly. Unexpected noises and motions still cause him to retreat to more comfortable territory (in the vicinity of his bed). I stayed up late with him again last night. He was even more confident walking about the three rooms that have been opened to him (we have two more that will we open gradually). A few times he came up to me seeking rubs; he even plopped down next to me at one point for an extended petting session. We also played a bit with a scarf that was intriguing him. The biggest surprise of the evening was seeing him use the Drink Well water fountain that we set up for him - not once but twice! Usually these fountains scare even the bravest of cats! Perhaps Torin is more courageous than he leads on! Now he only drinks from his fountain and has stopped using the regular bowl of still water. At this rate, hell have come out of his shell fully by the end of this week. :) December 27 - a touching picture of Torin sitting on Michaels lap!!
