Happy Friday Music! Mozart (1756-1971) wrote 27 Piano Concertos (from 1767 until 1791). His 21st in C Major (K 467) was written in 1785 whilst in Vienna. The main video has Daniel Barenboim (1942 - ), a wonderful Argentinean pianist and conductor playing and conducting the Second Movement. Daniel is fluent in five languages and was married to Jacqueline du Pré for twenty years. He plays it at a fairly slow speed. You can listen to another very different performance of it at: https://youtube/watch?v=vYipzasSnc8 The Second Movement begins with only the Orchestra (Berlin Philharmonic in this case) and is written in F Major. When the piano enters, the strings tend to play much more pizzicato. A simple and enchanting melody – it has the power to transport the listener to other places. It is said that Neil Diamond was inspired to write “Song Sung Blue” (a 1972 hit) after listening to this Movement. The 1st and 3rd Movements are quicker. There are lots of scales and arpeggios flying around in the final joyful Movement. You can listen to the whole concerto at: https://youtube/watch?v=i2uYb6bMKyI Here Maurizio Pollini (Italian, 1942 - ) is the soloist, with Riccardo Muti (Italian, 1941 - ) conducting and the Orchestra filarmonica della Scala playing. Both Beethoven and Haydn heard Mozart play this piece.
