Happy Medicare Season! Medicare Fall Enrollment is October 15 - December 7, 2013. Many people with Medicare need to choose and enroll in their 2014 health and drug plans during that time. Since there are 23 health plans, and 31 stand-alone drug plans, you may be hear concerns about how complicated it is to compare plans and choose one. Thats why SHIBA is here. SHIBA stands for Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance. Federal funding for SHIBA is passed through the State Insurance Division, then comes to Multnomah County ADS. Twenty-five volunteers, who have had over 50 hours of classroom training and have passed a criminal background check, meet with Medicare recipients to help them compare plans, find the one that fits best, and enroll if they choose.
