Happy Mondays join Split 2014 line up wp.sunderland.ac.uk/aboutus/2014/05/29/happy-mondays-join-split-2014-line-up/ Split Festival have added Manchester Legends, Happy Mondays and 37 other acts to their line up for their 2014 event, which is now shaping up to be the biggest festival line up of contemporary music that the City of Sunderland has ever hosted. Also added to the roster are Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Smoove and Turrell, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Bleech, Hyde & Beast, The Lake Poets, The Twilight Sad, School of Language, Lisbon and Boy Jumps Ship. On top of all that, there are still more acts to be announced, along with the headliner of Stage Two on the Saturday. The new additions will strengthen an already powerful array of acts which includes, Dizzee Rascal (Saturday headliners) and Maximo Park (Sunday headliners). Also confirmed for the Main Stage on Sunday are The Cribs. Ross Millard, who curates the event, had this to say: “We’re delighted to unveil the additions of The Happy Mondays, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Frankie & The Heartstrings, Smoove and Turrell and all the other bands too and we really feel like the atmosphere in Mowbray Park will be positive and fit for a top-notch inner-city boutique music festival. Throw in all the exciting up and coming names on Stages 2 and 3 and it starts to look like the emerging British music scene is descending on Sunderland for two days of exciting wall to wall rock n roll action. I can’t wait!” The Sunderland based event is also be moving to a city centre location (Mowbray Park) and is being brought forward in the calendar, from their normal September time slot, right to the middle of the summer, with Split 2014 happening on the weekend of August 9 and 10.
