Happy New Year: Charlies Angels on the floor Farah Khans style - TopicsExpress

Happy New Year: Charlies Angels on the floor Farah Khans style of film-making is a bit like the Manmohan Desai films of old. Larger than life characters. Entertaining but over-the-top sequences. Tongue-in-cheek humour. But demanding an utter suspension of logic or realism. Happy New Year epitomises that genre. Farah makes no pretence of making an intellectual or even an intelligent film - so HNY is pure bollywood masala. The film scores in creating a motley bunch of unlikely characters at complete ease with each other. Add drool-worthy shots of Dubai and a few chartbuster hits. And spoof SRKs super-star image through scenes and dialogue from his previous hit films. While the sets are rich and the scale is grand, the dance sequences should have been better - coming as it is from a choreographer-turned-director. Among the cast, Deepika, Boman and Abhishek shine while Sonu is just about okay. Vivaan is an embarrassment. SRK continues to ooze charm adding 8-pack action sequences to his trade-mark self-effacing humour. If you are willing to trade realism for escapism, HNY will make you smile. Like it or not, this ones heading for 200 Crore plus. 3.5 Zing stars out of 5
