Happy New Year! Well, its tax season again. I hope everyone had a good year. The are a few changes and some new provisions in the tax code for 2015 (2014 filing season), most notably in the health care law being phased in, as mandated by the Affordable Care Act. Most taxpayers, particularly Michigan residents, will be relatively unaffected in 2014, as Michigan did not immediately opt in to Medicaid expansion, which is an automatic exemption from the shared responsibility payment, administered through the tax code. So dont let the H & R Block commercials scare you into visiting them so they can book you for an appointment and waste your time. During the off season I completed the new certification, compliance training, and IRS testing required to retain representation rights before the IRS, demonstrate acceptable competance, and get the latest updates regarding the new healthcare law as well as current income tax laws. In addition, I have implemented a cloud based client portal to facilitate secure online document submission, electronic signature collection, document storage, and online collaboration. Each client will receive their own personal portal and have access to all of these features via a simple email link. The system utilizes bank level 256 bit encryption and is an approved best practice system for document compliance requirements and security. You will have secure electronic access to all of your tax documents when you need them for things like student loans and mortgages. If you need to amend your return, just call, submit new documents through the portal, e-sign and download the updated return. These are just some of the many improvements for the upcoming tax season. As always, please feel free to call with any questions. I look forward to seeing you soon.
