Happy New Year my friends!! It would be easy for me to dwell on the hard times Cherry and I have been through in 2014 but there are plenty of things for me to be thankful for. I have been fortunate to be able to spend some time every day with my beautiful wife and to celebrate our 40th anniversary side by side with the love of my life. Ive spent the last five plus months trying to be a caretaker for my wife and it has given me a greater appreciation for the devoted lady that spent most of her life taking care of other people. Ive spent a lot of time with and gotten to know a bunch of talented and compassionate health care workers and I am amazed at how they are able to stay cheerful in the midst of so much human pain and despair. My conversations with patients and family members has shown me that there are many others in much worse circumstances than ours and this has made it easy for me to be grateful for every moment of my life with Cherry even though our situation is less than ideal. I am thankful for my family and good friends who have prayed for and visited Cherry and I in the hospital and nursing home and for all of the nursing home staff, including the doctors, nurses, assistants, therapists, administrators, housekeepers, maintenance workers and every one else who goes out of their way to smile and say good morning to Cherry and I each morning as we sit in the hallway.
