Happy New Year tea lovers! In these first weeks of 2015 we’re going to explore pairing tea with food to get the most of both the beverage and the menu. Today we are talking about unblended black teas, not the flavored teas such as apricot or strawberry added. Fruity Black teas from India or Sri Lanka have a natural fruitiness and pair perfectly with pastries, desserts or sweet sandwiches. If you want to get the most of your sweets try taking a bite then a sip of tea to cleanse and then another bite. You may be surprised by how this fruity black can enhance your dessert menu. Smoky Black teas typically come from China and are literally smoked over pine wood to give them this rich deep flavor. Pairing with food can be intimidating because we want each sip to compliment each bite. Here make bold choices! Smokey blacks belong with hearty stews, heavily flavored dishes and darker meats. Earthy Black teas from China or Africa are best paired with well seasoned meats like beef or venison roasts or root or cooked vegetable dishes as opposed to lighter fare of leafy greens. I hope this gets you started enjoying black teas! Next week we will explore Green Teas and their pairings. Until then, check out our web site WWW.Theteabags.net for more information on pairings under the Blog tab.
