Happy News Day! We had a great appointment with the Audiologist - TopicsExpress

Happy News Day! We had a great appointment with the Audiologist who works with the Starkey Hearing Foundatio, Derrick Coleman Foundation and Livingston Hearing Center! They were told to “take care of the kids”… New features on the new hearing aids include: Better frequency for wireless technology, going from Bluetooth to FM Radio Frequency for real time clear sound. They can wirelessly connect to smart phones, tablets and laptops and television for much better sound than the previously had. They have the ability to have different programs. Shea can have a music program which will allow her to hear all of the sounds more clearly… not just bass and treble (I think that is what she said). And Colton can have different programs for his fluctuating hearing with the push of a button! Water Resistant! We no longer have to worry about getting caught in the rain or a spontaneous water fight… They can even sit in a hot tub or pool with the aids in as long as they do not go underwater… And, even if they do forget… It is unlikely that these new hearing aids will be damaged. They had one patient who forgot to take his aids out while scuba diving and they were just fine! Cool Color Choices! Shea has chosen a Pink hearing aid with a Crayola Violet Blue ear mold… LOL She informed us at the appointment that this is the color she wanted, we found it on line and Starkey said, “we can do that”… Colton chose red hearing aids with neon green and yellow ear molds… LOL I love that they are comfortable now with their hearing aids… and that they are owning them! A few years ago they only wanted flesh tone colors so that they would not show up as much… Their own FM Boot (personal assistive technology). We currently get these from Oakland Schools… they attach to the hearing aids and the teachers speak into a microphone and their voice transmits to a receiver in the kids aids… We now will have them for any and all activities outside of school… And they are colored to match the hearing aids… These hearing aids are so cool… and the Starkey Hearing Foundation along with the Derrick Coleman Foundation are doing great work to help give the gift of hearing… They travel to third world countries where people will walk for 50 miles to come for a basic hearing aid… They told us of one family had to sell their only cow to make the trip… And, they are making Colton custom earplugs for swimming… as he cannot get any water in his ears due to the Cholesteatomas… There is more, but those are the highlights…We will take delivery of the new aids in about two weeks… It feel great to post a happy news announcement! There is no cost to us… saving us approximately $8,000 to $10,000 out of pocket.
