Happy Pastor, Happy Congregation Simply put, a happy Pastor will have a happy congregation. Being unhappy as a Pastor is the result of ignoring the Word of God, because happiness doesn’t come from situations and circumstances. Happiness is a product of joy, which is a fruit of the recreated human spirit. Joy doesn’t come because things are happening correctly, otherwise the people that live in the best houses would be happiest; those with complete families with very respectful kids that are doing nicely at school and winning awards, would have been the happiest people in the world – but they are not. Some so-called ‘successful’ men and women have surprised everyone by committing suicide, leaving people wondering what went wrong. This lets us know that joy is from within the recreated human spirit, and not from the physical conditions around us. Happiness is one of the blessings that the joy in our spirits gives to us, and to remain happy always, you will have to fuel your joy by staying in the Word. When you have the Word of God in you, it refreshes your spirit and will keep you happy all the time. The Word of God is the fuel that keeps you joyful all the time. This is why I earlier stated that being an unhappy pastor is the result of ignoring the Word of God. When there is no fuel, flames are quenched. This is why you must be fired up always by the Word of God. Being happy is your responsibility. If you want to be successful, and accomplish God’s purpose for your life, you must be happy always. Give yourself to the Word of God always, and it will fuel your fire of joy. Galatians 5:22 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: Love and joy top the list! Peter calls it joy unspeakable and full of glory! Joy is expressed, therefore if you are joyful, it will show. In the scriptures, every time people expressed joy, it was in laughter, singing, praise and dancing. You cannot frown and be joyful at once. No! Be happy and express it. As you walk into the office in the morning, come in bright and happy. You are the pastor; the representation of the Jesus and your joyful expression can take away the challenges and problems of those around you.
