Happy Saturday all! Its time for another installment of Why I do what I do. I always have people ask the team, What is it that you do exactly? My job is to promote the adoption of pets from the shelters. To put shelters and rescues first in peoples minds when its time for them to add a new furry family member,as well as to promote the adoption of senior pets and to be a responsible pet owner by remembering spay and neuter. Sounds pretty straightforward, right? Let me give you an example of just how much work needs to be done bridging the gap from potential pet owner to the pet needing adoption. Im a member of a few non pet related pages. The other day I noticed someone had slid a post in selling Siberian Huskies. OK,right off that made me growl because I do not like to see pets for sale in Facebook, and Im not supporting a page that has that. There were several people that had ask questions about the dogs. The usual stuff, how much etc. One post really said it all... Oh,I have been looking for one of these! What I have posted, along with my words,is a photo from the Siberian Husky Assist Rescue. They just pulled that beautiful dog from the shelter. As a matter of fact, they have several beautiful Huskies. The person who had been looking for a Husky and the rescue are in the same town. See..? Theres the problem pups and kittens. People have no idea about breed specific rescues, let alone rescues or shelters and the choices of great pets that they have. These are the times when my mission becomes very clear to me and my team. It also makes it very clear just how much work we have to do! Now,I know that the almost 700 of you on my page know about the wonderful feeling you get from helping a shelter pet. It doesnt matter if you volunteer, adopt, donate, foster, rescue, transport. Share or cross post, or have a bake sale to raise money for the pets. You are also hoisting the flag of awareness in this battle to spread the word and to educate. I want to thank you all for doing what you do. We all have our own ways in which we contribute, and they are all vital to keeping the word going. Its a marathon, not a sprint. We are in it for the long haul peeps. Again.. Thanks to all for what you do! :0)
