Happy Sunday everyone! Like dogs I love working with kids. When I get the chance to do both it makes my day. The kid in this video was quite the handler! Here I am working with two dogs that are nervous about little children being that close to them. By giving our dogs a task to do while those kids are around makes a positive experience for everyone. The key is both the children and the dogs have to be sensitive of each other and the pressure that can be applied unknowingly by the dog or the child. This unwanted pressure can make a child fearful of dogs and a dog fearful/aggressive with children. Bottom line we the parents/owners have to be advocates for everyone in order to ensure safety. The uncomfortable truth is that a lot of dogs get put down because we are unaware of the pressure that strangers or children put on our dogs. Never force a relationship instead, give your dog the choice to interact with humans or children and takes things slow.
