Happy Thursday, Mike had his colon surgery two weeks ago today. He was released from the hospital last Thursday afternoon. It has been very tough both physically and mentally. He has no energy and no appetite. He gets frustrated with me trying to get him motivated to get up and says I am “force feeding” him. Just showering is a major ordeal and wears us both out. We saw the surgeon a couple days ago and he is OK with his progress. With two major surgeries within a two month time frame and low hemoglobin levels after the surgery the fatigue is understandable. This surgery/recovery makes the liver surgery seem easy. This incision is about 8 inches long and started to become infected while we were in the hospital so they opened it in 3 places to drain. This has to be packed and dressed a couple times a day. The funny thing is that it makes him queezy and I’m the one doing it. He is taking 10 pills a day right now and rolls his eyes every time I bring one to him. The doctor said it was my job to make him mad but that’s not fair (haha). Along with the mass they removed 3/4 of his colon (large intestine) but he is now cancer free! We see the oncologist next week to discuss when the last 4 chemo treatments start. We understand these are precautionary. I don’t mean for this update to sound negative at all, it’s just the truth. We see improvement everyday and this will soon be just a memory. What a journey the last 7 months have been. He is minus 2/3 of his liver, his gallbladder was removed with his liver, minus a large portion of his colon and his appendix was removed with the colon. We can see the end in sight and know how blessed he is! We can’t begin to imagine how people go through challenges in life like this without the encouragement and support that we’ve had. We love you all dearly for this and ask that you continue to pray for his recovery. God is good! The Cadenhead’s
