Happy Tuesday, FaceSamplers...... Round Barn Tuesday. Very slow tourist traffic in the winter on Old Rte.#66, but I actually enjoy the peace and quiet, and the ambiance of the old barn, so full of history, kitsch, and memories..... 116 Christmases...... and counting! Congratulate me - On here not five minutes, and I already resisted three REALLY good straight lines. Its gonna be one of those days. I crack myself up; I really do. Thank you all. In 1973, me & my buddy, Harold (Captain Drugger) Dugger, went to downtown OKC to the Midnight Movie (Think 400 hippies and pot smoke almost too thick to see through...) at the old deco movie theater just across from the Civic Center (The Centre Theater?) and saw Mad Dogs and Englishmen.... I had NEVER seen anything like Joe Cocker, nor had I ever heard anyone sing like that. I can honestly say that Joe Cocker was one of my prime inspirations to be a rock and roll singer. God only ever made ONE of Joe, and then He threw away the mold. In the decades of the thousand and thousands of cookie-cutter, formula, dime-a-dozen, One Hit Wonder rock stars, that ol boys star was a Comet..... he blew through my little Okie sky and blinded me for a while. He leveled everything I thought an up & coming rock musician could possibly know about singing, and rock music... I never was much of a rock and roll singer, but when I DID try my best, I did so because I watched Joe Cocker do it. When somebody says something about how loud I sing, that little smile they get from me in return means something.......R.I. P. Joe...... Gotta git - yall be good, and Ill try to be.
