Happy birthday, Alfred Russel Wallace! Wallace was born on this day in 1823. He formulated the theory of evolution through natural selection independently around the same time as Charles Darwin. The two later would become great friends and collaborate extensively on the topic of evolution. Over the course of his life, Wallace penned 22 books and 747 shorter works; over 500 of which were scientific papers on topics such as evolution, biogeography, and anthropology.
