Happy birthday, United Services Organizations! In 1941, as it became clear that the nation was heading into World War II, several organizations mobilized to support the growing U.S. military: the Salvation Army, YMCA, YWCA, National Catholic Community Services, National Travelers Aid Assn. and the National Jewish Welfare Board. President Franklin D. Roosevelt created synergy among these agencies by forming the United Service Organizations. In addition to the USO Centers, the organization offers many programs and services for Servicemembers and their families, and has been entertaining overseas military and family members since its inception. More recently, USO Warrior and Family Centers are a home away from home for recovering troops and their families. But, these are only a fraction of what the USO does. Now in its 73rd year, the USO has more than 160 locations worldwide which saw nearly 9 million visits last year – and they continue to expand. Find out more at uso.org. Happy birthday, USO, and thank you for your long-time, ongoing and continuing service to our Servicemembers, Veterans and their families.
