Happy birthday to Steve Earle who turns 60 today. He’s a guy who’s been through a lot - fame, addiction, prison, redemption - and still has a big heart. I saw him for the first time in the 1980s, opening for Bob Dylan, and both of them were just going through the motions (barely). In the late 1990s I was doing the backstage catering at a three-day concert in Toronto where he performed. I got to hear him every night and he was really hot. I got to see him around backstage too, and my recollection is that at the time he was a pretty hefty guy and was on a special diet but man, he loved every bite he took!
