Happy weekend folks. Make sure you have your milk, bread and have enough food at home this weekend because snow is coming today and will last through the morning through midday. The city may see 2-4 inches. Areas south and east of the city may see 1-3 inches. Areas north and west of the city could see 4-6 inches. There will likely be so sleet mixed in as well. My advice to anyone who has to go out today is be safe and take every precaution you can. If you dont have to go out tomorrow, stay home and stay safe. My parents and I went back out to Rudys Pizza for dinner. We shared a cold antipasto appetizer and a meat lovers pizza for dinner. Some sad news out of MLB Friday night as Chicago Cubs legend Ernie Banks Mr. Cub passed away at the age of 83. The following information is from an article from Yahoo Sports: Ernie Banks, the man whose Hall of Fame baseball career was defined by his passion and energy – and was only surpassed by his kindness and loyalty, died on Friday. He was 83. A family spokesman confirmed the news late Friday evening. Few details were made available, but it was announced that a news conference will be held at noon CST on Sunday in Chicago. Known the world over as Mr. Cub, Banks broke in on Chicagos North Side in 1953 and never left. Not only would Chicago be the only stop in a baseball career that spanned 19 seasons, its where his heart remained for 43 years after his retirement. He loved the city, he loved Cubs fans and he loved being their ambassador to points all over the world. That love was returned tenfold, and will no doubt continue to be expressed to his family as it grieves. The sports world immediately took to Twitter to react to his passing. On the field, Banks was simply one of the best to ever play the game. Over those 19 seasons, he hit .274/.330/.500 with 2,583 hits, 512 homers, 1,636 RBI and 1,305 runs scored. Those numbers earned Banks 14 All-Star Game selections and two MVP awards, in addition to baseballs ultimate honor, induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Banks was inducted in his first ballot, receiving 83.8 percent of the vote in 1977. Banks was the anchor in a lineup that also featured Hall of Famers Billy Williams and Ron Santo. For a time, he was an anchor on the field as well, spending many of his early days manning shortstop, baseballs most important defensive position. Most importantly, though, Banks was an anchor in the clubhouse and in the community, always offering an optimistic take or inspirational word to brighten the teams outlook or the day of a fan hed only met moments before. His most famous saying – Lets play two! – speaks to the seemingly endless enthusiasm with which he played and lived. If he could have, he would have played two every day, and maybe even three if someone asked. That never changed, even as the organization he loved moved further and further from a World Series victory. Its such a shame, too, that Banks wont live to see a Cubs world championship. But theres no doubt hed simply smile and say hell be more happy for the fans who eventually will enjoy that moment. He was a one-of-a-kind baseball player and a one-of-a-kind person that defined everything thats good about sports. But its the entire world that was better off for having known him. The NFL came out with a statement regarding the deflate-gate investigation Friday. The following information is from an article from Yahoo Sports: The NFL has been strangely quiet this week, as a major controversy swirls. Aside from spokesmen confirming that an investigation was going on, there hadnt been much word from the NFL about deflate-gate this week, which really isnt the transparent NFL that commissioner Roger Goodell promised us. Reports have trickled out about how many footballs the New England Patriots used were under-inflated in the first half of the AFC championship game and what steps the officials took during the game, but the league has been quiet. The NFL broke its silence on Friday afternoon, and said practically nothing. It said there is an investigation and evidence thus far supports the conclusion that footballs that were under-inflated were used by the Patriots in the first half, which we knew. It said it will be led by NFL executive vice president Jeff Pash and Ted Wells of the law firm of Paul Weiss (Wells ran the Dolphins bullying scandal investigation), which isnt important information to most fans. The NFL has talked to 40 people (but apparently not Tom Brady), but gave minimal details on what it was told. The league did say the officials inspected the Patriots footballs before the game per the rules and they were compliant with the rules, which clears up that key point. But mostly the NFL put out a long-winded statement that tells us almost nothing other than that its looking into it and to sit tight. Not any specifics on what the air pressure of the footballs were or any tests its done or the results of any interviews. Thats not helping build up trust in the NFL again. Maybe it would hurt the investigation to release more of the details it knows already (and if youve done 40 interviews and tested the Patriots footballs at some point after the first half you know something more than telling us Pash and Wells are on the case and will let us know), but it would be nice to get more than this statement more than four days after the news first broke from the league that wants to be known for transparency. Heres what the league released in its statement: Our office has been conducting an investigation as to whether the footballs used in last Sunday’s AFC Championship Game complied with the specifications that are set forth in the playing rules. The investigation began based on information that suggested that the game balls used by the New England Patriots were not properly inflated to levels required by the playing rules, specifically Playing Rule 2, Section 1, which requires that the ball be inflated to between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds per square inch. Prior to the game, the game officials inspect the footballs to be used by each team and confirm that this standard is satisfied, which was done before last Sunday’s game. The investigation is being led jointly by NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash and Ted Wells of the law firm of Paul Weiss. Mr. Wells and his firm bring additional expertise and a valuable independent perspective. The investigation began promptly on Sunday night. Over the past several days, nearly 40 interviews have been conducted, including of Patriots personnel, game officials, and third parties with relevant information and expertise. We have obtained and are continuing to obtain additional information, including video and other electronic information and physical evidence. We have retained Renaissance Associates, an investigatory firm with sophisticated forensic expertise to assist in reviewing electronic and video information. The playing rules are intended to protect the fairness and integrity of our games. We take seriously claims that those rules have been violated and will fully investigate this matter without compromise or delay. The investigation is ongoing, will be thorough and objective, and is being pursued expeditiously. In the coming days, we expect to conduct numerous additional interviews, examine video and other forensic evidence, as well as relevant physical evidence. While the evidence thus far supports the conclusion that footballs that were under-inflated were used by the Patriots in the first half, the footballs were properly inflated for the second half and confirmed at the conclusion of the game to have remained properly inflated. The goals of the investigation will be to determine the explanation for why footballs used in the game were not in compliance with the playing rules and specifically whether any noncompliance was the result of deliberate action. We have not made any judgments on these points and will not do so until we have concluded our investigation and considered all of the relevant evidence. Upon being advised of the investigation, the Patriots promptly pledged their full cooperation and have made their personnel and other information available to us upon request. Our investigation will seek information from any and all relevant sources and we expect full cooperation from other clubs as well. As we develop more information and are in a position to reach conclusions, we will share them publicly. According to reports, any discipline on the deflate-gate will not likely happen until after the Super Bowl. So for now this soap opera regarding the Patriots will continue. Los Angeles Lakers shooting forward Kobe Bryant is likely done for the season with a torn rotator cuff. The following information is from an article from Yahoo Sports: The Los Angeles Lakers and All-Star guard Kobe Bryant will wait until Monday to make a final determination on a response to his torn rotator cuff, but there’s little hope within the franchise that Bryant can avoid season-ending surgery, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Bryant, 36, met with Lakers physicians Friday to further examine the extent of the tear, and Bryant told associates that it was “premature” to say that a decision had been made to end his season. Bryant will meet with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday. Bryant wants to exhaust every possibility before ending his third straight season early because of a significant injury, sources said. Still, there isn’t believed to be a sensible plan that exists for Bryant to continue playing with such a serious injury in his shooting shoulder, sources said. So far, sources say, the doctors opinions offered to Bryant have been consistent: He needs season-ending surgery. The Lakers and Bryant will make the final decision on surgery after consulting with Dr. ElAttrache on Monday. Lakers coach Byron Scott expressed regret again Friday for the game and minute workload that he thrust onto Bryant earlier in the season. In his 19th season, Bryant recently had started to sit out games and play fewer minutes to preserve his body, but finally succumbed to the shoulder injury Wednesday in New Orleans. Bryant has averaged 22.3 points, 5.6 assists and 5.7 rebounds in 35 games this season for the Lakers. He’s set to make $25 million in the final year of his contract in 2015-16. The Lakers are 12-31 and in last place in the Pacific Division.
