“Happy wife, happy life” is one of those cute little catchphrases that may have more truth to it than people realize. Researchers from the University of Michigan and Rutgers University wanted to assess the lifestyle and marital quality of couples over 60, namely, those who’ve been together for a long, long time. Nearly 400 couples filled out diaries and then asked them questions about their life satisfaction and happiness, with most giving their marriages and rating their happiness on the end high of the scale. But here’s where it gets interesting. When men did not give high marks to their marriage, they still expressed an overall satisfaction with their lives, provided their spouses were happy with their unions.
