Harley is a 2 year old handsome devil with some distinct personality quirks. Like most bullies, he is playful, affectionate, goofy, has a lot to say, snores loudly, and can be swayed by treats. He is house broken, kennel-trained, gets along GREAT with other dogs, and is as healthy as a bulldog can be. However, based in part to a history of abuse we believe, Harley gets very nervous sometimes and acts out in a concerning manner. He is generally friendly with strangers, but if people yell loudly around him, quickly pick up objects, try to shove him into his kennel or a certain spot, or if the other dogs in the house get worked up (i.e. when the doorbell rings), Harley gets very nervous and anxious, and sometimes transfers those feelings into growling or snapping. An ideal owner is someone who has experience with this type of behavior, and can commit to a calm, confident demeanor to provide him direction. In other words, rather than grabbing his collar and trying to force him in the kennel, Harley needs to be rewarded with treats and sweet talked. Rather than retreating to the out of fear or blind obedience, we are teaching Harley that the kennel is his safe calm space and not a punishment. He is just a big baby and we expect all of these behaviors to fade as he develops a loving, trusting bond with his new family, and receives a lot of positive reinforcement rehabilitation.
