Harpa doris Röding, 1798, form: robusta Röding, 1798 [Harpidae] - TopicsExpress

Harpa doris Röding, 1798, form: robusta Röding, 1798 [Harpidae] - Ascension Island, south Atlantic Ocean. 39mm. An localized island form found on both Ascension and Cape Verde Islands. The form is appropriately named, being far more robust with a stockier shape and thicker ribs. The Ascension Island shells for the most part seem to be on the small side in comparison to typical H. doris from the West African coast, though I would not go as far as calling them dwarf since larger shells have been found in years past. The Ascension Island shells are most difficult to get and mostly offered from older collections. Photo: Richard L. Goldberg © 2014.
