Harrison Arrowood Barrett(1890-1970) & Lizzie Chastain Barrett(1892-1973) Harrison is the son of Thomas Potter Barrett and Henrietta Dover Barrett. Many called him Big Harris because of his large size and being a very powerful man. Once while working for the railroad as a young man,he picked up a 20 ft. section of railroad track by himself! During hog killing time,he would often bear hug a 400 or 500 pound hog, holding it up while the others fastened it in place. Another time was when he and his brother,Alfred Barrett, was making whiskey and got word that the Revenooers were coming. They capped off the mash barrel and Harrison carried the heavy load deeper into the woods hiding it to keep from being destroyed. As well as being known for his physical strength,he had a very humorous and comical disposition. All during the Depression,he carried a nickel which was worn slick in his pocket so that he could always say he was never broke.During the last couple years of his life,he suffered a series of strokes which physically impaired his speech and body.He died of a final stroke in 1970. Harrison and Lizzie moved from Hog Creek to Sunnyside living in a house located on the road near Hog Creek bridge just across from the present day Boundry Waters Marina.
