Harrow 2s 0 - 2 Eton 2s by Nick Scarborough The 2s renaissance continues to gather pace with their most convincing and business-like performance to date. An underwhelming Harrow team were outthought, outfought and left distraught in their own backyard as their old rivals’ reigned supreme in the wind. The same old faces keep returning in this team, and punctuality has become their hallmark as the clubs tardy book goes without offender for another week. Ashmores Law had also been respected at unprecedented levels - VC Pym uncharacteristically staying in with a Dominoes meat feast and his netflix subscription. It was clásico weekend and Eton appreciated its significance. This sort of preparation pays dividends - and Eton were only too happy to collect as the game kicked off. They had elected to play into the wind in the first half, but still dominated proceedings with encouraging ease. Headers were commanded, possession dominated and reference to a 50:50 challenge would necessitate an investigation from the Office of Fair Trading for gross misrepresentation. Max Marq continues to lobby his case as a mainstay with another virtuoso display at left back. This was a day when everything went Maxs way, as Harrows right winger remained in his pocket and his eye catching netball style throw ins went unpunished by the ref. The Bromley pirouette is likely to be imitated throughout the Arthurian lower leagues, Charlie using his signature move to devastating effect: opening up play and providing real Yaya presence in the middle. Despite a hatful of chances that first goal eluded Eton for the first 45, yet for the first time this season a sense of mature patience surrounded the team: keep turning the screw gents, well get our pay-out. Downwind in the second half our diligence was rewarded: a Frost corner nodded in by the gleeful J Priestley meant the visitors were deservedly 1-0 to the good. Harrow were not afforded any opportunity to muster a response, forced to suffice on the offcuts as their bitter rivals gorged like medieval kings. The games champagne moment duly settled the tie and compounded our hosts misery. A marauding 70 yard run from Marq took him to the by-line - his inch perfect cutback was met by Frost with the most cultured of finishes, a seasoned side footer swept into the near post. Our tails were up and Harrow appeared to have little left in the locker. The rumours are true gents - OE 2s are on a run. Whilst this should be enjoyed and savoured, complacency is still the enemy and must be avoided at all costs. Berkhamstead next week presents a real test – they’ll be licking their wounds after last fortnight’s spectacle and eager to extract their revenge. Let’s just keep beating what’s in front of us – the league table will take care of itself.
