Harry Kane says that Ryan Mason has been superb in training and that he deserves his chance in the Tottenham Hotspur first-team. Mason has broken throughout into the team after a series of injuries had hampered his progression as a youngster. The central-midfielder is now 23-years-old, but appears to be a late bloomer and he has made a big impression with the supporters since being brought into the senior squad by Mauricio Pochettino. His teammates, too, have clearly been impressed by his form and Kane was quick to pay tribute to the man who he came through the academy system with. Ryan Mason has come in and done great, he is quoted as saying by the Irish Mirror. He deserves the chance to be playing. He’s been great in training. And that’s what you want. You want the rewards as a young player, when you’re training well, to get that chance.” Mason made his debut in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest and he turned the game on its head. Spurs had looked like falling to a humiliating defeat against the Championship side, but the midfielder scored the first of the game before the side went on to add two more to secure their progress. His display in that game was enough to convince Pochettino to keep him in the team for the North-London derby and he repaid his managers faith. Mason played in a deep-lying midfield role against Arsenal and he showed his defensive talents to help his side pick up a credible point. Despite his good form, though, Spurs are struggling so far and they did not pick up a league win in the whole of September. It means that there is great pressure on their game against Southampton tomorrow, as the Lilywhites look to get back to winning ways in-front of their own fans at White Hart Lane. How impressed have you been by Mason so far? -DE
