Harry Truman who eventually recognized Israel, did so reluctantly, and not as a religious state. He pointedly did not use the term “Jewish” in official statements regarding the recognition. Truman wanted Jews to be part of Palestine State of all its citizens, whether Jews or Muslim to live peacefully. This is highly irrelevant to the current dispute between Palestinians and people who created State of Israel for most unwanted then about whether Israel should concede to the Palestinian is an issue that rankled as far back as 1948.
