Hash marks - Does everyone know what hash marks are for when you see them on service members or police officers left arm sleeves? Answer - each hash mark represents 3-5 years of service, depending on the agency of service branch. For example at Hollister Police Department its every 5 years for each. We have the employee add a hash mark once they are within 12-18 months of there anniversary for each 5 years of service. The first picture is my sleeve. It signifies 25 years of service as Im very close to 25 years in Law Enforcement service. The second picture is of our Animal Control Supervisor. We thought innovation would be the key with our Animal Care & Services Bureau. As you can see each 5 yrs of service the employee adds a paw print hash mark. We thought it was a really cool and unique way to recognize our employees years of service to our community. I dont know of any Animal Control Agency that does this. Perhaps weve started a trend. I think its one of the coolest ideas weve done at the shelter in a long time.
