Have a look at some of the pictures of our Unofficial Bio-Blitz or biodiversity bash that we held this past weekend near Ellisras. Andre Coetzer , myself and a couple of friends have been chatting about doing one of these for a while and thought that we would hold a small one just to get the feel for it and learn what not to do! We set out to see if we could get 500 species within the Kingdom Animalia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal - have a look at Wiki for the Classification) and it seems we are well on the way there. We are still in the process of identifying many invertabrates - with the help of some experts including, Ansie Dippenaar, Nina Jennifer Parry, Herman Staude and many others. Get in touch with Andre or myself if you would like to help out in future when we plan to break the 1000 species mark. I am also busy looking into any forms of sponsorship for next year, as we plan to make sure this data gets to the right people, universities and Environmental NGOs (such as the Animal Demography Unit) so if you are in that kind of business please get in touch as well.
