Have any of you been wondering why we are posting about the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area? The Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, along with the City of Yuma and the great citizens and guests of Yuma are the ones that Saved the Prison from closure in 2010! Due to a budget shortfall in 2010, there were 13 Arizona State Parks that were due to be closed because of lack of funding. After but a few short weeks, the Yuma community pulled up her boot straps and came up with not only a fundraising plan to prevent closure, but established a solid long-term sustainability plan to keep the prison open for the long haul. In short...the City of Yuma is leasing both the Yuma Territorial Prison Historic State Park and our sister park the Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park and they are both being manged by the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area. The Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area is proudly transforming Yumas riverfront, celebrating Yumas rich history, and helping revitalize Yumas historic downtown! yumaheritage/
