Have had the fortunate experience this week of talking to a respected health professional about narcissists - what motivates them, drives them, turns them off and on, and how they mirror exactly what you need them to be before devastating you and moving on to their next supply. Holy crap....wish I had realized 3 years ago what I know now. He is the classic textbook case - from the way he made me feel initially, right down to the way he discarded me in the end after finding another supply to meet his needs. Even right down to the excuses he gave me....all of which in his eyes were my fault. Such a sad, sad, waste of time, love and energy. Misplaced hopes and dreams. Anyone who knows this person, thinks that he is a decent guy who was misunderstood and neglected and was forced to do what he did to me, BEWARE. You see of him what he wants you to see. Friends, family, partners, work mates.....what you BELIEVE he is doesnt exist. He is incapable of showing you his true self until he has absolutely no use for you anymore. Its not his fault. He cant help himself anymore than he can change. Not without professional help. I was willing to seek this out with him, for him, and for us. But like a true narcissist, he ran back to his new supply with no warning. Guess the truth was too much to face.
