Have just seen Mr Turner the movie about the famous painter - TopicsExpress

Have just seen Mr Turner the movie about the famous painter starring Timothy Spall, I was astounded by its attention to detail as well as the outstanding performances. Of particular interest to me was a scene where Turner visited a photographic studio around 1850 to have his photo taken, or as it was in those days a Daguerreotype, where the image is exposed onto a metal plate. The young photographer was embracing the new technology and extolling its virtues, while Turner sat wistfully sensing that the world was changing. It was reminiscent of my own film based imaging industry when the digital world tore it apart and changed it forever, it was, and still is, an exciting time to be involved in the industry as the digital technology transforms photography. Also, it was nice to see Mary Somerville the the Scottish scientist (or as it was known then a natural philosopher) introducing him to the magnetic properties of violet light and its effect on magnetism. A woman in science in those days was a rare thing. trailers.apple/trailers/sony/mrturner/
