Have to VENT. Ive been a substitute teacher, children and youth - TopicsExpress

Have to VENT. Ive been a substitute teacher, children and youth minister, mentor, mom, aunt and friend to children of all ages. I have advocated for children in the fields of education, families and the judicial system. We teach our kids to have a voice, to speak up, to talk to us!however who is teaching us to listen? When a Teacher tells a student to put their hand down without letting them speak, when a parent tells a child they dont have time to listen right now, when a coach ignores a childs questions, when we dont stop and get on their level and listen to them then we are telling them that they do not matter. We tell them that if there getting bullied to speak up and then tell them to put their hand down without asking them what they need. How can they have confidence to speak out and speak up? If were constantly ignoring them? We can redirect our children to the proper time and subject once weve actually heard them without quieting their voices.
