Have you ever built a top-down fire in your wood stove? Ive been using this method for about 4-5 years and IT REALLY WORKS. Some nay-sayers ... you know who you are ;) ... are not convinced, but I have had a 99% success rate with top-down fires. They are fast-lighting, quick and clean. There are quite a few YouTube videos about them, but heres one for you to check out. If youve been using top-down method, let us know when you learned it and if you have any tricks to share. If you havent tried it yet....give it a try and report back! My method is to lay 2-3 large logs at the bottom of the wood stove. Then across those, 1-2 more large logs. [It depends on the size of the firebox]. I create a large V of sorts with the larger logs. Medium pieces of wood go on top of the large ones. Then I add a fire-starter [homemade with dryer lint] with one or two pieces of birch bark or newspaper. A few pieces of kindling go on the very top.
