Have you ever had a near-death experience? Was it a car accident? - TopicsExpress

Have you ever had a near-death experience? Was it a car accident? An attack? An overambitious adventure? A health scare? What did it do to you other than fill you with absolute terror? Did it make you more aware of your life, your loved ones, your health, your blessings, your goals, your dreams, your fears, your future, etc? Did you hug your parents or your children a little longer that night? Did you pray more sincerely that night? We live in a constant spinning illusion of life. Everywhere we look, at any time of the day or night, there is movement, noise, light, and presence. We take great pleasure and comfort in these things and learn to surround ourselves by artificial light, artificial noise, and artificial company. When were alone we need music, we take our phones to every room we occupy, we browse the Internet late into the night and we fall asleep to the sounds of the television. Death and the accompanying quietude, stillness, and darkness that it brings are perceived as otherness which scare us, so we avoid it even though it is inevitable and the most realest of all realities. We must ask ourselves, is avoiding these things making us any better at living? Or is it giving us a false sense of permanence that makes us take our blessings for granted? When you wake up to welcome a new day imagine how differently you would behave and speak if in the periphery of your mind and heart you were as alive as you felt after a near-death experience. Imagine how you would serve your parents differently. Imagine how you would speak to your spouse differently. Imagine how you would treat your children differently. Imagine how you would stand, bow, and kneel in your prayers differently. Imagine how you would eat and drink differently. Imagine how you would spend your money differently. Imagine how you would drive on the road differently. Imagine how you would speak about other people differently. Imagine how you would forgive and seek forgiveness differently. Imagine how you would work differently. Imagine how you would thank differently. Imagine how you would LIVE differently. Death shouldnt scare us. It should gently remind us to seize the blessings that we have, to bask in the warmth of Gods mercy and love and to live a mindful and present life. May God guide us and make us increasingly grateful for the blessings of life. Indeed, He is the Most Generous, Most Merciful. Ameen. ----------------------------------------------- A man asked the Messenger: Who is the most wise of people, O Messenger of Allah? He replied: The one who remembers death most often and the one who is well-prepared to meet it; these are the wise; honorable in this life and dignified in the Hereafter. (Ibn Majah)
